Genesis 1 (Easy English Version)

1 At the beginning, God made the sky and the earth.  
2 The earth was empty and dark, covered with water. God's Spirit was moving over the water.  

3 God said, "Let there be light," and there was light.  
4 God saw that the light was good. He separated the light from the darkness.  
5 He called the light "day" and the darkness "night." Evening passed, and morning came—the first day.  

6 God said, "Let there be a space to separate the waters."  
7 He made the sky to divide the waters above from the waters below.  
8 God called this space "sky." Evening passed, and morning came—the second day.  

9 God said, "Let the waters come together, so dry land will appear." It happened just as He said.  
10 God called the dry land "earth" and the waters "sea." He saw that it was good.  

11 God said, "Let the earth grow plants and trees with seeds." The earth produced plants and trees.  
12 God saw that it was good. Evening passed, and morning came—the third day.  

14 God said, "Let there be lights in the sky to separate day and night."  
16 God made the sun, the moon, and the stars.  
18 He saw that it was good. Evening passed, and morning came—the fourth day.  

20 God said, "Let the waters be filled with living things and the sky with birds."  
21 He made all kinds of sea animals and birds. God saw that it was good.  
23 Evening passed, and morning came—the fifth day.  

24 God said, "Let the land produce living creatures: animals, livestock, and wild animals."  
25 He made them all and saw that it was good.  

26 God said, "Let us make people in our image to rule over the animals and the earth."  
27 So God made humans, both male and female, in His image.  
28 He blessed them and said, "Have many children and take care of the earth. Rule over the animals."  

31 God saw everything He made, and it was very good.  
Evening passed, and morning came—the sixth day.
